Sikkim is a small Indian state that sticks up like a thumb from the Indian plains into the Himalayas. It is bordered by Nepal to the west, Tibet to the north and Bhutan to the east. In 2010, I traveled to Sikkim with my two daughters, Cary and Martha, and trekked in a region near the world’s third highest mountain, Kangchenjunga. It was as spectacular as it was challenging! Sikkim is home to glaciers, alpine meadows, and exquisitely beautiful ancient Buddhist monasteries.
